Abuja, March 8, 2018 (NAN) Mrs Winifred Oyo-Ita, the Head of Civil Service of the Federation HOS), has charged the new governing board of Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON) to seek alternative means of funding.

Giving the charge while inaugurating the new board of the college on Thursday in Abuja, Oyo-Ita said that ASCON should look outside government circles and source for funds to sustain its operations.

The HOS identified other possible areas of funding for the college to include the private sector, International Development Partners (IDPs) and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs).

She added that the appointment and inauguration of the board members were aimed at repositioning the college for efficient service delivery.

“ASCON has recorded a lot of successes but dwindling resources over the years have impacted negatively on the activities of the school.

“I would like to urge the newly inaugurated board to look outside the box and work in collaboration with the director-general and management of the institution.

“Aggressive efforts should, therefore, be made by the board and management of the institution to explore other areas apart from government to fund its operations.

“Other areas of funding may include the private sector, International Development Partners, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs).”

She urged the new board members to help provide direction in supporting the vision of the college.

In his remark, Hon. Nduka Anyanwu, the Chairman of the board, said that his team would pursue the vision of the college as they were motivated by the success of their predecessors.

“ASCON will be better positioned for effective services.

“We shall tap from the experiences of our predecessors and work towards making the college to continuously develop a pool of service-oriented citizens”, he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that ASCON was established by Decree No.39 of 1973.

The law, ASCON ACT CAP. 6, Vol.1, charges ASCON with the responsibility of development of manpower for the Civil Service.(NAN)
