Abuja, May 9, 2017 (NAN) The Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abdullahi Muhammadu, has warned officers and men of the Corps against conflicts and inter-agency rivalry with other security agencies.

Muhammadu gave the warning‎ on Tuesday in Abuja at a workshop on Conflict Prevention, Peace Building and Alternative Dispute Resolution for peaceful coexistence organised for NSCDC Commandants.

He‎ said that his leadership had resolved to work with all other security agencies in harmony to achieve the main mandate of securing lives and property of Nigerians and foreigners.‎
‎
‎The NSCDC boss promised to deal with any state command involved in any inter-agency rivalry or conflict according to the laid down laws, insisting that all security agencies must work for the same goal.
‎
“Any state command involved in any kind of rivalry with other security agencies in the country will henceforth be dealt with.

“If they are trying to fight you, show them peace, show them that we are being paid by the same government. Our own is peace, peace and peace with everybody.

“‎Make sure you cooperate with all the security agencies, Civil defense is known for peace. So, don’t fight with any security organisation,” he warned.

He said that the workshop was organised in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as part of plans to ensure conflict prevention and peace in the country.

Muhammadu expressed optimism that the workshop would‎ go a long way in providing officers and men of the Corps with the requisite skills in conflict management and crises prevention in line with international best practices.

“In today’s world, conflict management and crises prevention are no longer reactive activities but are rather proactive skills-based on activities that involve systematic skills,” he said.

He said that the NSCDC would continue to collaborate with relevant local and international‎ stakeholders like the UNDP and the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) for the training of NSCDC officials. (NAN)
