Abuja, Sept. 21, 2017 (NAN) A Grade 1 Area Court in Karmo, Abuja, on Thursday sentenced a 28-year-old security guard, Adamu Abdulmalik, to eight months imprisonment for stealing 28 pieces of inverter batteries.

Abdulmalik, who works for Proton Security Company, was arraigned on a charge of theft, an offence which contravened Section 289 of the Penal Code.

His conviction followed his guilty plea just as he pleaded for mercy.

In sentencing him, the Judge, Mr Abubakar Sadiq, however, gave him an option of N20, 000  fine.

Sadiq said the punishment would have been stiffer if the convicts had not saved the court the pains of prolonged trial.

He warned the convict to take his  job more seriously and desist from committing crime.

Earlier, Police Prosecutor Dalhatu Zannah told the court that the complainant, Mr Olusegun Olusola of Shippers Plaza, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja,  reported the incident at Utako Police Station on Sept. 12.

Zannah said the accused, who was employed as security guard by the security company, was deployed to Ecobank in Wuse Zone 5 branch, to guard the premises and the property.

The accused had on Sept. 12, while on duty at the bank, stole 28 pieces of inverter batteries at the plaza. (NAN)
