Security guard bags 6 months imprisonment for stealing zinc

Minna, Aug. 16, 2017 (NAN) A Minna Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday sentenced a security guard, Abubakar Saidu, 34, to six months imprisonment for stealing 12 pieces of aluminum roofing zinc valued at N60,000.
The Magistrate, Hamza Muazu, sentenced the convict after he admitted committing the offence.
Muazu, however, gave the convict N5,000 option of fine, and also
ordered him to pay N30, 000 compensation to the nominal complainant, Rabiu Aliyu.
The prosecutor, Insp. Alfred Auta, told the court that Aliyu of Old Zamfara Bottling Company, Kpakungu, Minna, reported the matter on Aug. 11.
Auta alleged that the complainant reported that unknown persons entered the company and carted away 12 aluminum roofing zinc valued at N60, 000.
He said that during police investigation it was discovered that the convict, who resides with the area stole the items.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 288 of the Penal Code.
Auta further urged the court to summarily try and convict the defendant and order him to pay N60,000 to the nominal complainant, being valued of the stolen zinc. (NAN)
