Abuja, Aug. 18, 2017  (NAN) A 29-year-old security guard, James Joshua, who offered a temporary accommodation to his friend that robbed his employer, was on Friday brought before a Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja.

Joshua, who resides at Sam Tsumba Street, Life Camp, Abuja, was arraigned on charges of joint act, housebreaking and theft.

Police Prosecutor Florence Auhioboh told the court that the complainant, Mr David Iliya of the same address with the defendant reported the case at Life Camp Police Station on Aug. 9.

She said the defendant,a security guard attached to the complainant’s compound, accommodated his friend, who is now at large.

Auhioboh said: “The complainant woke up that morning and discovered that they had broken into his living room and stolen some items.”

The items, he said, included a 58-inch LG plasma television valued at N300, 000, a laptop and Gionee phone valued at N 180, 000, and a purse containing some money and I.D cards.

Auhioboh said during police investigation, James had admitted accommodating his friend,  but said he did not know that he was a thief.

“All efforts to trace him have been unsuccessful.”

The offences contravened Sections 79, 288 and 346 of the Penal Code.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, granted him bail in the sum of N100, 000 with a surety in like sum.

Sadiq said the surety must produce an utility bill carrying his name and must also reside within the court’s  jurisdiction.

He adjourned the case until Sept. 29 for hearing. (NAN)
