Lagos, Sept. 27, 2017 (NAN) A 20-year-old security guard attached to a primary school , Abraham Muhammed, who allegedly stole the school bus valued at N4 million, was on Wednesday brought before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

Muhammed, a resident of Nelson Okemuise Avenue, Sangotedo in Lekki area of Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of theft and willful damage.

The accused stole the school bus, a Toyota Hiace with registration no. AW 874 LSR valued at N4 million belonging to the school while on duty, the Prosecutor, Insp. Ben Ekundayo said.

Ekundayo told the court that the accused committed the offences on Sept.16 at 7. 00 a.m. at Nora Nursery and Primary School, Sangotedo, Lekki.

“The driver gave the accused the bus key after close of work on Friday as usual, but by Saturday morning, he had bolted with the school bus.

“The tracking device in the bus was used to track the bus and the accused was later apprehended by the police,’’ he said.

The offences contravened Sections 287 (7) and 339 (7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that under Section 287 (7) the offence attracts a seven-year imprisonment.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

Magistrate Ade Adefulire, in his ruling, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200, 000 with one surety in like sum.

Adefulire said the surety must operate a bank account within the jurisdiction of the court as part of the bail conditions.

The case was adjourned until Oct. 24 for mention. (NAN)
