Lagos, July 12, 2018 (NAN) A sculptor, Nathaniel Hodonu, has advised youths to learn how they can recycle coconut shell in household materials and other money-making ventures and become self-reliant.

Hodonu, a graduate of the University of Ado Ekiti, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that coconut shell could be turned into tables, wall decorations, flower vases, lamp shades, cups, key holders and many other things.

“We have been used to disposing off coconut shell not knowing that we can create huge wealth from it,’’ he said.

Hodonu frowned at how the youths had been engaging in drug abuse, internet fraud and some other social vices.

He advised them to embrace turning waste to wealth such as turning coconut shell into household goods that could fetch them money.

He said that when they were usefully engaged, they would not become idle minds that would always indulge in negative activities.

He said that he would next month organise a workshop to train youths and retirees on diverse ways to recycle coconut shell to generate useful household materials and make additional income.

Hodonu said that the workshop tagged: “Coconut Shells Art Workshop” would hold in Badagry to train youths on how to become self-employed.

“The workshop will be targeted at the unemployed youths, retirees, people who are planning for retirement, Fine Arts students and those on the lookout for extra sources of income,’’ he said. (NAN)
