Lagos, July 4, 2017 (NAN) A 25-year-old scrap dealer, Babangida Saidu, who allegedly broke into a shop and stole two tiger generators and a welding machine worth N80,000, was on Tuesday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

Saidu, who resides at Baale Street, Abesan, Ipaja, a Lagos suburb, is facing a two-count charge of stealing and shopbreaking.

The offences contravened Sections 287 and 309 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the accused may be sentenced to a minimum of three years on conviction, according to the criminal law.

Police Prosecutor Victor Eruada told the court that the accused committed the offences on June 21 at Sector 4, Zone 3 of Third Avenue Abesan Housing Estate, Ipaja.

According to him, the accused broke into the shop of the complainant, Mr Kamoli Bolaji and stole two tiger generators valued at N20,000 and a welding machine valued at N60,000, belonging to Mr Isikilu Akintunde.

“The accused was caught by the security guard on duty in the estate while trying to escape with the items.”

Saidu, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Mrs G.O. Anifowoshe, in her ruling, admitted the accused to N50,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

She said the sureties must be gainfully employed and should also show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The case was adjourned until July 12 for mention. (NAN)
