Lagos, Oct. 25, 2017 (NAN) Some traders at the Idumota Market, Lagos Island, have lamented  the poor volume of sales being recorded on school bags and lunch boxes for children unlike the previous years.

They, however, blamed the problem on the lull in the nation’s economy, which they believed would soon improve.

In separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Wednesday, they said they could not meet their sales projections on the resumption of schools in September.

A trader, Mrs Grace Achigbulu, said the sales of school bags was better than that of lunch box, probably because some school bags had separate compartments for different purposes.

“I have lunch boxes tied to school bags, but I just discovered that most buyers go for only school bags except a few others buy both separately,’’she said.

Also speaking, Mrs Basirat Bakare said that the sales of school bags had been dull and she had added other saleable items to her stock to make ends meet.

“Thank God ‘am not only into the sales of school bags and lunch boxes, I also sell baby materials, which are moving fast,” she said.

In the same vein, Mr Emmanuel Abi, told NAN that most parents preferred cheaper bags these days.

“Most of my customers, who buy high grade and expensive bags now go for the cheaper ones,” she said.

Latifat Mokele told NAN that one of her customers told her that most parents prefer to buy fairly used school bags, as part of cost cutting measures.

“I asked one of my customers why she was no longer buying school bags from me?

“And she told me that she had bought a fairly used bag for her child and would buy from me very soon,’’ Mokele said. (NAN)
