Sandamu (Katsina state) April 19 2018 (NAN) Sandamu Local Education Authority in Katsina State has urged the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) to recruit additional 200 teachers to effectively cover the 56 existing primary schools in the area.

The Education Secretary of the area, Malam Yau Tukur made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Daura.

Tukur put the current teaching staff in the area at 570, saying more qualified teachers were required.

He also called for the recruitment of security guards for the schools.

The education secretary commended the board over the recent promotion of 370 teachers, some of which were due for promotion since 2013.

Tukur also appreciated the efforts of the board in the provision of infrastructure, saying between 2015 and 2018 “the board has built 16 additional primary schools and renovated 30 others.

“This gesture has increased access to education and provided environment conducive for teaching and learning.”

The education secretary added that the Girl-Child enrolment into junior secondary school and primary schools has risen dramatically in the local government area.

According to him, another batch of 300 teachers whose promotions have been due from between 2016 and 2017 will soon be released.

“It is interesting to add that we have 35 teachers on in-service training, undergoing different degree, diploma, and national certificate of education programs.”

Tukur charged the teachers to reciprocate government’s gesture through dedication and commitment to duty, and warned against indolence and truancy.(NAN)
