Lagos, May 17, 2018 (NAN) A 20-year-old salesman, Chibuike Adiele, who allegedly absconded with N520,000 belonging to his employer, was on Thursday brought before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Adiele, who had no fixed address, is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, theft and breach of peace.
The prosecutor, Insp. Philip Osijiale, told the court that the accused committed the offences on April 16, at 9:30a.m. at No. 3, Idowu St., Idumota, Lagos.
He said that the accused absconded with N520,000 belonging to his employer (name withheld) and 15 cartons of door lock worth N385,000.
“The accused was sent to pay the said money into his employer’s account. Adiele did not come back to the shop since then, and it was discovered that goods were missing from the store.
“The accused, who had called his boss and family and claimed he was kidnapped, was later found in a hotel in Imo State where he was lavishing the money,” he said.
The offences contravened Sections 168, 287 (7) and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
Section 168 prescribes three months’ imprisonment, Section 287 (7) carries seven years’ imprisonment and Section 411 two years’ jail term, for offenders.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the offences.
The Magistrate, Mr Omolaja Kazeem, granted him N200,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.
He said that the sureties must be gainfully employed and must reside in Lagos State.
The case was adjourned until June 7 for mention. (NAN)
