Lagos, Aug. 28, 2017 (NAN) Three salesgirls, who allegedly stole their employer’s 16 bundles of textile material valued at N4 million, were on Monday in Lagos granted N1 million bail each.

The accused, Idayat Atiku, 26; Kafilat Sunday, 19, and Yetunde Kolawole, 33, are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court which gave the ruling asked the accused to produce two sureties, who should show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs O.A. Layinka, adjourned the case until Sept. 26, for mention.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Donjor Perezi, told the court that the accused committed the offences between March and July, at No. 33, Kosoko St., Idumota, Lagos.

Perezi said the accused conspired and stole the materials belonging to one Mrs Olanike Bankole.

He said that the complainant noticed the materials were missing when she took stock of what was left in her shop.

“After taking stock and checking the records and accounts, she noticed there were discrepancies, and the accused could not give satisfactory account of the missing goods.

“The accused were handed over to the police for further investigation,” he  said.

The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 prescribes a three-year jail term for stealing, while Section 411 stipulates two years imprisonment for conspiracy.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge. (NAN)
