Lagos, July 25, 2017(NAN) A 30-year-old sales’ representative, Ugochi Iheke, was on Tuesday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing recharged cards valued at N1.6million.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Yomi Egunjobi, told court that the defendant committed the offence in November 2016 at Akowojo, a suburb of Lagos.
He said that the defendant, a sales’ representative of Haddex Value Service Ltd., fraudulently used the company’s name to sign for recharge cards valued at N1.6million without the company’s consent.
“The defendant falsely represented the company by collecting goods on credit from one of their distributors, Today’s Data Integrated Ltd., without the knowledge of the company.
“The defendant was not given any authority to buy any product on behalf of the company as the company has its purchasing manager.
“The defendant sold the goods and converted the proceeds to her personal use.
“Her fraudulent act was discovered when Today’s Data Integrated Ltd., requested for its money from Haddex Value Service Ltd.,” he said.
The defendant, who resides at Alakuko area of Lagos State , however, pleaded not guilty to the charges of obtaining goods under false pretences and stealing.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 287 and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 314 stipulates a15-year jail term for offender found guilty of obtaining goods under false pretences.
The magistrate, Mrs O.I Raji, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N250, 000 with two sureties.
She ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
