Lagos, April 23, 2018 (NAN) A 39-year-old sales representative, Adamu Jangado, who allegedly stole textbooks worth N3.3 million, on Monday appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.
Jangado, who resides at Bwari, Abuja, is being tried for obtaining money by false pretences and fraud.
The prosecutor, Insp. Raji Akeem, told the court that the accused committed the offences from January 2016 to January 2017 at the West African Books Publishers Ltd., Ilupeju, Lagos.
Akeem said that the accused obtained various editions of textbooks from the company valued at N3. 3 million.
“The accused obtained the textbooks under the pretext of supplying to various customers and remit the proceeds into the company’s account.
“The accused had been transferred to Abuja branch, but during account reconciliation, he was ordered to come to Lagos,” Akeem said.
The prosecutor submitted that the accused confessed at a police station that he used the money to build a house in Abuja.
The offences violated Sections 314 and 387 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, according to Akeem.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Chief Magistrate Jadesola Adeyemi-Ajayi granted him bail in the sum of N2 million with two sureties in like sum.
Mrs Adeyemi-Ajayi adjourned the case until May 11 for mention. (NAN)
