Abuja, July 4, 2018 (NAN) A Karmo Area Court, Abuja, on Wednesday sentenced a 23-year-old sales representative, Joseph Oche, to three months imprisonment for misappropriation and theft.
Oche had admitted committing the offences and begged the court for leniency.
The judge, Mr Maiwa Inuwa, however, gave Oche an option to pay N5, 000 fine.
Inuwa said that the punishment would have been stiffer if the convict had not saved the court the pains of protracted prosecution by admitting committing the offences.
The judge warned the convict to be of good behaviour and also ordered him to pay the complainant N80, 000 as compensation.
The prosecutor, Mrs Ukagha Ijeoma, had told the court that on June 18, one Mr Ositadinma Alfred of Shop 6 , Block B3, Wuse Market new extension, reported the matter at Wuse Market Police Post.
Ijeoma said that the convict works as a sales representative in the complainant’s shop at Wuse Market.
She told the court that between Feb.14 to May 27, 2018, the complainant discovered that the convict sold some goods worth N 181, 500 and converted the money to his personal use.
She said that the complainant gave the convict time to cross check the goods again, but he criminally stole 10 pieces of Star Times recharge cards valued at N13,000.
The prosecutor added that during police investigation the convict made a confessional statement.
The offences contravened the provisions of Sections 309 and 288 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
