Sales rep, 27, disappears with employer’s N338,000 goods

Lagos, Jan. 10, 2018 (NAN ) A 27-year-old sales representative, Obadimu Gbenga, who allegedly stole his employer’s goods worth N338,000, was on Wednesday hauled up before an lkeja Magistrates’ Court.

Gbenga, a resident of Sango-Ota in Ogun, is facing a two-count charge bordering on stealing.

The accused committed the offence on Dec. 13, 2017 at No. 1, Moses Emeya Close, off Social Club Road, Abule-Egba, a Lagos suburb, according to Police Prosecutor Victor Eruada.

Eruada said the accused, who is an employee of the complainant, Mrs Busayo Akinrinde, was given some goods worth N338,000 to sell converted the proceeds to personal use.

“When the complainant confronted him about the missing money, he could not give a satisfactory explanation.

“The complainant reported the case to the police and the accused was arrested,’’ he told the court.

The offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the section prescribes seven years jail term.

Gbenga, however, entered a plea of `not guilty’.

The Magistrate, Mrs G. O. Anifowoshe, in her ruling, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until Jan. 15 for mention. (NAN)
