Riyom (Plateau), Dec. 8, 2016 (NAN) Plateau Commissioner for Health, Mr Kunden Deyin says the state government is determined to ensure that the Riyom General Hospital commences operation in 2017.
The commissioner said this in Riyom on Thursday during the official handing over of the hospital to the state government by the contractor handling the project.
“This hospital is strategically placed; it is on the road to Abuja and other states.
“Most accident victims are taken to Jos for medical attention and this delay usually result to the death of victims.
“However, once this hospital commences operation in the first quarter of 2017, this challenge would have been adequately tackled.”
According to him, the Riyom General Hospital will also have a specialised unit for the immediate handling of accident and emergency cases.
Riyom general hospital is a 30- bed capacity and it consists of an X-ray unit, a theatre, a mortuary and staff quarters.
He said that the hospital would assist the people of the local government area in accessing prompt medical attention rather than going to Jos or any other town for medical attention.
Represented by Habila Gotum, the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Deyin expressed satisfaction at the work done by the contractors.
The commissioner expressed satisfaction with the construction of the Riyom General Hospital, which he said started since 1999 and commended the current Plateau Government for its completion.
Deyin said the government would soon establish a standard secondary health care facility in each council to cater for the needs of the people.
He said construction works are ongoing in Kanke, Langtang South and Mikang local government areas of the state. (NAN)
