Abuja, June 8, 2017 (NAN) The National Industrial Court, Abuja, has fixed July 11 for the Police Service Commission to open its defence in a case instituted against it by a retired Superintendent of Police, Uduak Akpan.

Akpan, who retired as a Superintendent of Police on Jan. 2, 2015, sued the commission over alleged unpaid salaries and emoluments while he was in service.

According to the claimant, he was not paid his salaries and emoluments between 1997 and 2009, while he was still in service.

The claimant also joined the Nigeria Police Force and the Inspector General of Police as co- respondents.

The judge, Justice Edith Agbakoba, fixed the date after Mr John Ainetor, counsel to the claimant, noted that the respondents were not in court to cross examine his witness.

He subsequently urged the court to foreclose the respondents from cross examining the claimant’s witness (CW1).

“My lord, it appears that the respondents are not in court today; this matter was slated today for cross examination of the claimant witness.

“The witness is in court, we urge the court to foreclose the respondents from cross examining the witness,” he said.

The court adjourned hearing in the suit and ordered that notices be served on the respondents.

The court had on May 4 adjourned hearing in the suit until June 8 for the defence to cross examine the claimant’s witness. (NAN)
