Lagos, May 19, 2017 (NAN) A Retail Manager, Emmanuel Elemi, on Friday, appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, charged with stealing N3.3million, property of his employer.

The accused, 41, who resides at 8, Jeremy Street, Udi, Kotokoto in Warri, Delta, is facing a two-count-charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor, Peter Nwangwu, told the court that the accused conspired with others still at large and diverted the money to his own personal use.

He said that the offences were committed between May 2015 and November 2016 at Warri, Delta State.

Nwangwu said the case was reported by one Tomi Aderibigbe on behalf of Pointek Technologies Limited, the employer’s of Elemi.

He said the accused, a retail manager, was transferred by the employer to their Warri office to manage it.

According to the prosecutor, the retail manager defrauded his company by diverting the said amount to his account and converting it to personal use.

He said that the accused altered sales receipts of customers during transactions.

“This was discovered when the accounts were audited and anomalies were traced to the manager, hence the report,” Nwangwu said.

The prosecutor said the offences contravened Section 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the section prescribes three-year imprisonment for offenders.

The accused, however, denied the charge.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Y.O. Aje-Afunwa granted the accused N800,000 bail and adjourned the case till July 10 . (NAN)
