Ilorin, Dec 7, 2016 (NAN) The Kwara State Government says payment for the N6 billion light-up Kwara it wants to embark on will commence after a 10-year evaluation of the project.
Alhaji Mahmud Ajeigbe, the State Commissioner for Information and Communication, made the clarification in Ilorin on Wednesday while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Ajeigbe said this became necessary due to the misconception by the public about the project which he said would improve security and add aesthetic values to the state.
According to him, the state government has engaged two contractors that will deploy their resources for the solar project.
“It is after the installations and maintenance for 10 years by the contractors that the state government will commence payments by installment.
“This will have availed the government an opportunity to evaluate the project and ascertain if it is satisfied with it’’, he said.
The commissioner also explained that the contractors would have trained the staff of the state on maintenance of the project.
Ajeigbe told NAN that the payment method was designed in such a way that would be affordable to the government.
He said the first phase of the project would cover 68 kilometres in Ilorin metropolis, while the second phase would take care of other towns in the three senatorial districts.
On the N1billion Agricultural-loan request by the state government, the commissioner explained that it was to increase food production in the state.
He said that the request under the Commercial Agricultural Credit Scheme had been approved by the state executive council and the state House of Assembly.
According to him, government will review farmers’ registration with a view to ascertaining the genuine ones.
He said that the state would start loan disbursement to the farmers with adequate guarantors at a single digit interest rate. (NAN)
