Yola, Dec. 10, 2016 (NAN) The Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnics (SSANIP) has urged the Federal Government to expedite action on the release of funds for the payment of arrears of CONTISS 15 to its members.
This was contained in a communique signed by the National Chairman of the union, Rev. Sunday Sabo and Secretary, Chief M.P Jegede, issued at the end of the just concluded 51st NEC/GEC meetings of the union in Yola.
“Government is aware that the CONTISS 15 was implemented with effect from January 2009 but funds have not been made available for the payment of arrears due to the migration of those who have been migrated.”
The communique also urged government to release the outcome of NEEDS assessment report on polytechnics and to make funds available for its implementation.
It also tasked government on the urgent need to release and implement the White Paper abolishing the HND/BSC dichotomy.
The communique observed the expiration of tenure of the Rectors of Federal Polytechnics Damaturu, Bali, Kaduna, Offa and Auchi, and called for the appointment of substantive rectors for the affected Polytechnics to enhance their affairs.
It lauded the ongoing fight against corruption and stressed the need to address the challenges of delay in the administration of justice, as well as the need to ensure the judicious use of recovered loots.
While commending the effort of government in securing the north east region of the country which was ravaged by the insurgency, it called for a more pragmatic approach in addressing the current economic recession.
The communique also disclosed that the union had resolved to embark on industrial action if the issues raised, particularly the NEEDS assessment report and white paper on the HMD/BSC dichotomy were not addressed in three weeks. (NAN)
