Registration
By Aminu Ahmed Garko
Minna, March 1, 2017 (NAN) The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has solicited the support of the Nigeria Immigration Service to prevent foreigners from being captured in its ongoing registration exercise.
Mrs. Mary Makama, coordinator of the commission in Niger State, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Minna.
“The ongoing registration is to capture only Nigerians into our data machines; we want the immigration service to support us toward ensuring that no foreign sneaks in,” she said.
Makama revealed that many foreigners had made efforts to be captured but were denied by the stringent conditions attached to the registration exercise.
“We have introduced various devices to enable us detect illegal aliens seeking to force their ways in; sometimes it is surprising, but they (illegal aliens) keep trying to be captured,” she said.
She urged Niger residents, who had not been registered, to take advantage of the ongoing registration exercise to do so.
She also appealed to the state government to support the exercise by opening NIMC offices in the 12 local government areas where the exercise was yet to commence.
The coordinator regretted that out of the 25 local governments in the state, only 13 had NIMC functional offices.
“The headquarters has provided all tools required for the exercise, but we still do not have office accommodation to settle into, in many local governments,” she said. (NAN)
