Realising safe space for children requires synergy – Ministry says

Abakaliki, May 27, 2018 (NAN) The Ebonyi State Government says achieving a comprehensive safe space for children requires synergy between the parents, guardians, Civil Society Organizations, governments and the general public.
The state government through its ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development said that the synergy, when created would help children to actualise their full potential.
The Commissoner in the ministry, Mrs Rebecca Ogbuewu made this known on Sunday at the 2018 Children’s Day Celebration at Ngele Oruta stadium, Abakaliki with theme:”Creating Safe Space for Children, Our Collective Responsibility”.
Ogbuewu said that the passing into law of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP), achievement of the Child Rights Act, establishment of Family High Court, among others were meant to fight the cause of children in the state.
“All these instruments have been put in place to guarantee safe space for our children and everyone is expected to rise up to their responsibility.
“I urge our children to be law abiding citizens, respect constituted authority, shun social vices and take their education serious, “Ogbuewu said.
The Chairman of the occasion and Senator, Ebonyi State Children Parliament, Master Ugochukwu Okor urged parents and guardians to rise up and give attention on matters concerning their children to achieve the theme of the celebration.
“I commend the governor for his various commitments in our education and to end problems in facing children in the state.
Gov. David Umahi, who urged all to rise up concerned to their responsibilities, acknowledged the good job done by President Muhammadu Buhari in the school feeding programme.
He said Buhari in this regard had reaffirmed his commitment to ensure more would be done to better the lives of the Nigerian child.
He said the President in his speech had urged parents and leaders to use the celebration to reflect on their roles and responsibility towards their children.
“The children are our future, give them confidence. The cardinal objectives of this administration is provision of quality education to our children as a fundamental foundation of economic and social development, ” he said. (NAN)
