Ibadan, May 18, 2017 (NAN) The Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN), on Thursday, in Ibadan, called on Muslim preachers to use the holy month of Ramadan to preach peace and avoid hate laden sermons.
This call is contained in a communiqué issued at the end of MUSWEN’s third Annual General Assembly, which was signed by its president and executive secretary, Dr Sakariyau Babalola and Prof. Daud Noibi respectively.
According to the group, Ramadan presents a golden opportunity for those Muslims, who are not very knowledgeable about the teachings of Islam to learn more and practise the tenets right.
“Muslim scholars and preachers have an obligation to use their knowledge to unite and not to divide the people.
“We must all remember that beyond this world, we will one day stand before Allah and account for how we guide the people under our watch,’’ MUSWEN said.
The group urged the Nigerian political leaders to deploy their strengths and endowments in good governance rather than just politics.
MUSWEN further advised the Federal Government to give greater priority to the economy by diversifying it and focusing on the improvement of the socio-economic development of citizens.
“We support the President Muhammadu Buhari administration as it is making genuine efforts to tackle the nation’s problems and enthrone good governance.
“We urge the Federal Government to sustain its efforts at rescuing the remaining Chibok girls and return them to their families,’’ MUSWEN said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that MUSWEN is an umbrella body for all the state Muslim councils, communities and organisations in the South West.
MUSWEN was established in 2008 with the aim of fostering unity among Muslims in the zone; as well as contributing to the efforts of strengthening the Ummah brotherhood in the country. (NAN)
