Ramadan feeding: Kano State Govt. tasks Committee on honesty, commitment

Kano, May 26, 2017 (NAN) The Kano State Government has called on the Committee for the distribution of free Ramadan meals to discharge its duties with a high sense of commitment and honesty.

Malam Muhammad Garba, the state Commissioner for Information and Chairman of the committee disclosed this is a statement on Friday in Kano.

Garba said that the state government was interested in the feeding of the needy and indigents in the state to ease the performance of the one month Ramadan fasting.

The 2017 Ramadan would commence on Saturday May 27.

The commissioner called on the committee members across the Local Government Areas of the state to ensure that the objectives of the programme were achieved.

He commended Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano for sustaining the programme despite the current economic situation in the country.

In his remarks, the Secretary of the committee, Alhaji Kabiru Shanono said each local government has 15 designated centres where the meals would be distributed to the needy.

He said N187,500 would be given to each local government for 10 days transportation and distribution of the food items.

Shanono added that each Centre would also receive 10,000 daily for the purchase of vegetable and meat.

He said that bags of rice, beans, millet and sugar, cartons of Macaroni and Jerry cans of cooking oil have been distributed to flag off the programme. (NAN)
