Bauchi, May 17, 2018 (NAN) The Bauchi Central Market Traders and Artisan Association, has distributed food items to more than 500 orphans in the state metropolis as Ramadan gift.

Mr Muhammad Salisu, the chairman of the association, Mr Muhammad Salisu, made this disclosure on Thursday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bauchi.

Salisu said that orphans were selected based on households, adding that the gesture was also a way  to support the caregivers.

He said that the association through its numerous support programmes, would bring the orphans close to the society and provide a sense of belonging especially during this period.

“The association will on May 19, distribute bags of rice to more than 500 households identified as caregivers of orphans in Bauchi, as a small gift to feed those children that lost their fathers.

“Members of the association annually make contributions for this specific purpose, especially towards the end of the fasting period.

“Each member at the end of the Ramadan, either buys or picks from their shops some clothing materials for orphans, as we do not accept money,” he said.

Salisu said that each beneficiary would also receive a bag of rice, hoping that the gesture would reduce their  hardship.

The chairman called on other branches of the association to emulate the gesture and reach out to more orphans across the state. (NAN)
