Dutsi (Katsina State), Feb. 23, 2018 (NAN) The Raba Multipurpose Dam currently under construction in Dutsi Local Government Area of Katsina State has reached 80 per cent completion, according to Alhaji Muhammadu Sani, the project Supervisor.

Sani made this known when Sen. Mustafah Bukar of All Progressives Congress (APC) representing Katsina North, paid inspection visit to the project site in Raba on Friday.

He said that the dam was designed to supply 7.5 million litres of water daily to Danaunai, Kayawa, Nasarawa, Dannakola and Dutsawa villages and towns within the Senatorial District.

The project, which covers dredging, embankment and construction of spill ways, is being handled by a construction company called Akunna-Martata Nigerian Ltd.

Sani noted that the abandoned project which was restarted in January would soon be completed and be handed over to the government.

Bukar, who was represented by his aide, Hannafi Salisu, noted that the project was abandoned for several years before the lawmaker took it up with Federal Government and facilitated its reconstruction.

He said the project was being sponsored by the Sokoto Rima Basin Development Authority in 1999 before it was abandoned.

Bukar, however, said that the dam, when completed, would generate employment to hundreds of people through irrigation and other related projects.

He said the dam would promote consumption of safe and clean water, as well as prevent the outbreak of water borne diseases.

“The Dam will also serve as water source to cattle rearers and other livestock producers.”

Bukar said it was expected that the facility would reduce mass exodus of young people from neighbouring towns and villages to the urban centres in search of jobs and boost economic activities. (NAN)
