Cairo, Aug. 4, 2017 (dpa/NAN) The World Trade Organisation (WTO) on Friday confirmed that Qatar has filed complaints against three of its Gulf neighbours for their economic boycott.
“Qatar has requested WTO dispute consultations with the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia concerning measures adopted by the three allegedly restricting trade in goods and services from Qatar, and trade-related intellectual property rights.
“In its complaints against each country, Qatar accused them of adopting measures that are “coercive attempts at economic isolation,’’ the WTO said on its website.
Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt severed diplomatic, trade and transportation ties with Qatar in June, and later put forward 13 demands as conditions to end the boycott.
In July, the foreign ministers of the quartet said they are ready to begin talks if Qatar shows willingness to halt support for terrorism and abide by their demands.
Qatar has repeatedly denied their accusations. (dpa/NAN)
