Ibadan, March 1, 2017 (NAN) The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC)  in Oyo State has appealed to  residents of the state  to partner with it by providing  information promptly.

The Oyo State NSCDC Commandant, John Adewoye, made the appeal  on Wednesday in Ibadan during the 2017 World Civil Defence Day celebration with theme:  “Together with Civil Defence against Disaster.’’

Adewoye said that the main responsibility of managing disaster lies with civil defence .

He, however,  said without the involvement of local authorities, public organisations and the  private sector,  it would be difficult to achieve progressive and sustainable result.

“ Right to live in safety is one of the basic universal human rights  and absence of this will  not only pose a risk to life but also create an obstacle for sustainable development of a nation or state.

“Without technical equipment and professionally trained civil defence officer, it will be impossible for any state to protect her people,’’ the commandant said.

He called on residents  to always alert the command or other sister agencies whenever there was a  disaster to prevent its escalation.

Adewoye said that disasters  could  escalate to unimaginable proportion if not urgently tackled. (NAN)
