Trial
Munich, July 25, 2017 (dpa/NAN) The marathon trial of a member of a German neo-Nazi terrorist cell entered its final stages on Tuesday, with prosecutors calling on a Munich court to convict the 42-year-old accused.
Beate Zschaepe has been on trial in a Munich court for almost four years for being an accomplice in the crimes committed by the group.
She is allegedly the last living member of the National Socialist Underground (NSU), which is believed to have killed eight Turkish immigrants, a Greek citizen and a German policewoman between 2000 and 2007.
Judgment in the case is expected at the end of the year.
Prosecutors led by Herbert Diemer are expected to take about 22 hours to deliver their final arguments in the trial, which was launched in May 2013 and has now stretched over more than 370 days.
Zschaepe has denied any involvement in the murders, laying the blame on the two other NSU members, Uwe Mundlos and Uwe Bohnhardt, both of whom died in an apparent murder-suicide in 2011.
A trained gardener, Zschaepe has also been accused of torching the apartment in which she lived with Mundlos and Bohnhardt in the eastern German city of Zwickau.
Four other suspects are also on trial in Munich, accused of providing support to the far-right group. (dpa/NAN)
