Lagos, March, 1, 2017 (NAN) Ms. Bolanle Austen-Peters, Managing Director, Terra Kulture, Lagos, has advised federal and state governments to establish more theatres and studios to engage youths in dance, music, stage plays and visual art.
Austen-Peters told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Lagos that the governments should also encourage establishment of art galleries to promote visual art.
The managing director said that the art sub-sector of the economy had huge employment potential which had not been tapped.
She said that creation of an enabling environment would facilitate art businesses and boost the nation’s economy.
The managing director told NAN that many Nigerians had yet to believe that art could generate huge revenue.
Austen-Peters said that proper engagement of the youth would curb crime.
“The Federal Government can build more theatres where performing artistes can rehearse, have auditioning and other activities that can groom their talents.
“Likewise workshops should be built to encourage visual artists. Private investors should also be encouraged to invest in art,’’ she said.
Austen-Peters called for proper documentation of attendance in theaters and number of employments generated in the art industry yearly.
She said that this would enable practitioners to evaluate the growth of art and its impact on the economy.
Terra Kulture is a leading art, culture, lifestyle and educational centre. (NAN)
