Abuja, Jan. 7, 2017 (NAN) The Presidential Committee for North East Initiative (PCNI), on Saturday said that it would focus on reconstruction and rehabilitation of Boko Haram victims in 2017.
Mr Mohammed Danjuma, Head of Programme, Management and Coordination of the committee made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
Danjuma said that there would be very effective coordination to ensure the full implementation of the “Buhari Plan”, developed by the committee to drive the process of rehabilitation and reconstruction in the region.
“The Buhari plan is working to achieve a safe and prosperous North east that would be a global model for post conflict socio-economic recovery and development.
“The plan also hopes to achieve peace and stability of the region with the provision of equal access to basic services and facilities.
“We would also ensure the protection of women and girls against Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV), and target socio-economic development for women and youths to empower them,’’ he said.
According to him, the committee would within the year offer support for immediate comprehensive relief, social stabilization and early recovery to over seven million people in the region.
He added that under the medium term provision of the Buhari Plan, the committee would in the next two years, focus on the voluntary resettlement of 2.4 million displaced persons.
Danjuma added that 21.4 million citizens would be targeted in the long term to benefit from economic and development strategies for sustainable growth in the North east.
He said that the long term plan would run for 60 months.
NAN reports that the PCNI was inaugurated on Oct. 26, 2016 by President Muhamadu Buhari to develop strategies and implementation framework for the rebuilding of the North East region. (NAN)
