Katsina, Jan. 8, 2017(NAN) The Potiskum Emirate Council in Yobe has conferred the title of ‘Shettima Alama’ on Gov. Aminu Masari of Katsina State.
A statement issued by Alhaji Abdu Labaran, the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the governor on media, said the Mai of Potiskum, Alhaji Umaru Ibn Wuriwa Bauya 1, conferred the title on Masari at his palace on Saturday.
The Emir said that the decision was in recognition of the governor’s selfless commitment regardless of peoples’ tribes or creed.
‘’Years ago, when you were the Speaker of the House of Representatives, you assisted many of our people who approached you without knowing who they were or where they came from.
‘’Your commitment to people is legendary; you never pull back your punches once you are convinced of the legitimacy of the cause.
‘’We have waited for the opportunity to repay your kind gesture, and your presence in Potiskum is an opportunity for me to confer the title on you,’’ the emir said.
According to him, the title means that Masari is now the ‘’Defender/Commander of the people of Potiskum Emirate, and a member of the Council’’.
Responding, Masari commended the Mai Potiskum for finding him worthy of the great traditional title.
He assured that he would continue to offer his best to Nigerians regardless of where they came from, pointing out that ‘selfless service is what is expected of leaders’’.(NAN)
