Police drag factory worker to court for defiling minor

Lagos, July 19, 2017 (NAN) A 37- year -old factory worker, Obi Okechukwu, who allegedly defiled his neighbour’s seven-year-old daughter, on Wednesday, appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

Okechukwu, who resides at Abaranje area of Ikotun, a Lagos suburb, is facing a charge of sexual assault.

The Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Raphael Donny, told the court that the accused committed the offence on June 17 at his residence.

Donny said the accused called the victim into his room on the pretext of sending her on an errand and thereby defiled her.

“He shut the door and used his fingers to defile her and asked her not to tell anybody about the incident.

“The girl, however, told her mother when she felt the pains in her private part,’’ he said.

Donny said the victim’s mother reported the matter to the police and the accused was arrested.

The offence contravened Sections 135 and 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Folakemi Davies – Abegunde, granted him bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

She said the sureties should show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

Davies – Abegunde adjourned the case to July 26 for mention. (NAN)
