Police arraign mason for stealing pumping machine

Abuja, Dec. 15, 2017. (NAN) The police, on Friday, arraigned one Saminu Yushau, a mason, before  a Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a pumping machine.

The defendant, who resides in Kubwa, FCT, is facing a two-count charge of trespass and theft.

The Police Prosecutor,  Mr Adeniyi Oyeyemi, said that one Steven Nuhu, a security guard of OAU quarters, Wuse Zone 3, reported the case at Wuse Police Station on Dec.2.

Oyeyemi said that the defendant jumped through the wall into a house at the OAU quarters, where renovation was taking place around 7:30 p.m. and stole a pumping machine.

He said that the complainant heard some noise at the back of the house, adding that  when he got there, he found out that the defendant was carrying the pumping machine.

The prosecutor added that the defendant was caught walking  away slowly with the pumping machine.

Oyeyemi stated that the offence contravened Sections 348 and 287 of  the Penal Code of Northern Nigeria.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.

The magistrate,  Mr Mohammed Tahir, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum, who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

He adjourned the case to Jan. 24, 2018 for hearing. (NAN)
