Police arraign man for stealing fresh cocoa beans

Modakeke (Osun), Jan 25, 2017 (NAN) The Police in Osun on Wednesday arraigned Kola Bakare, 48, before Modakeke Magistrate’s Court for alleged stealing fresh cocoa beans.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Ona Glory, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Jan. 22, 2017 around 2.25pm at Ifesowapo village near Ile-Ife.

He said the accused stole some quantities of fresh cocoa beans valued at N120, 000, property of one Yemi Elugbaju.

He said that the offence contravened section 383 and punishable under section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol 11, Laws of Osun, 2003.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the offence.

The Defence Counsel, Mr Leke Dada, applied for bail on liberal terms for his client.

He pledged that the accused would not jump bail and would also produce reliable sureties.

The Magistrate, Bose Awosan granted the accused N150, 000 bail with one surety in like sum.

He said the surety, who must be a civil servant on Grade level 5 and above, must swear to affidavit of means.

Awosan added that the address of the surety should be verified by an official of the court.

She said that the surety should present his/her   identity card and last promotion letter to the court.

The magistrate also ordered that both the accused and surety should deposit two recent passport photographs with the court and adjourned hearing to Feb. 13. (NAN)
