Police arraign man, 32, charged with theft of cash, phone

Abuja, June 7, 2017(NAN) The police on Wednesday arraigned a  32-year-old man, Emmanuel Ugan in a Gudu Upper Area Court in Abuja for stealing N170,000 and  a phone valued at N13,000.

Ugan, of Wuye, Abuja, is facing a two-count charge of joint act and theft.

The prosecutor, Jushua Ayanna, told the court that Musa Mohammed of Wuye, Abuja, reported the matter at Wuye Divisional Police Headquarters on May 23.

He said the complainant alleged that on May 17, the defendant, with three others still at large, attacked him on his way back from work at Games Village traffic light in the evening.

He said the defendant and others collected his N170,000 cash  and a blue Gionee phone valued at N13,000.

Ayanna added that the defendant was seen with the phone on May 19 but he run
into a nearby bush before he was later arrested  by the police, an offence contrary to sections 798 and 287 of the Penal Code.

However, Ugan pleaded not guilty and the judge, Mr Umar Kagarko, granted him
bail in the sum of N200,000 with a reliable surety in like sum.

Kagarko adjourned further hearing in the case till July 6. (NAN)
