Warri (Delta), May 16, 2017 (NAN) The Nigeria Police, Warri Area Command, said it apprehended more than 20 suspects in Warri and environs in the last two months.
The Area Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mohammed Shaba, disclosed this when members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Warri Correspondents Chapel, paid him a courtesy visit on Tuesday.
Shaba said that crime rate had reduced drastically since he assumed office as head of the area command.
“I have been able to manage the situation since I assumed office.
“I hold meetings twice a month with Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) of the 11 divisions under me to brainstorm on the way forward.
“That is why we have been able to checkmate the activities of hoodlums.
“In the last two months, we have arrested over 20 suspects; some armed robbers, kidnappers and cultists.
“In some operations, there were exchange of bullets and in the process, some of the suspects were gunned down.
“We are trying our best and I assure you that we will continue to do our best to ensure the environment is safe for all of us,” he said.
Shaba also alleged that most of the criminal acts in Warri were being perpetrated by hoodlums residing in Ovwian and other neighbouring communities in Udu Local Government Area.
“We are doing our best to ensure that axis is well policed,” he said.
While assuring the chapel of a more cordial, robust and purposeful relationship, he urged journalists to always report shortcomings of his officers to him for appropriate action. (NAN)
