Abuja, May 23, 2018 (NAN) A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Wednesday sentenced a 24-year-old plumber, Alamba Ayuba, to four months imprisonment for stealing two speakers, property of Catholic Church, Life Camp, Abuja.
The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, however, gave the convict an option to pay N10,000 fine.
Ayuba, of no fixed address, had pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of criminal trespass and theft.
He begged the court to temper justice with mercy as he did not know what came over him.
The prosecutor, Ifeoma Ukagha, had told the court that one Jonah Ejob, a security guard attached to Holy Catholic Church, Life Camp, arrested and took the convict to the Life Camp Police Station on May 18.
Ukagha said that the convict trespassed into the church premises and stole two speakers, valued at N50, 000, and was caught in the process.
She said that during police investigation, he confessed committing the crime, while the speakers were recovered from him.
She said the offences contravened Sections 348 and 288 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
