Jos, Jan. 9, 2018 (NAN) The Plateau State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has trained 122 French teachers to improve their proficiency and teaching skills, according to its Executive Chairman, Prof. Mathew Sule.

Sule told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Jos that the measure was in line with the Federal Government’s declaration of French as a compulsory subject in primary, secondary and tertiary institutions.

“The training became necessary to improve teachers’ skills and boost the quality of service delivery,” he said.

He said that the measure would improve teachers’ capacity to compete at the global level and also enhance socio-economic interaction between Nigerians and nationals of French speaking countries.

The SUBEB boss said that the Plateau government had trained other teachers in various fields and rewarded outstanding ones, while infrastructure was improved as part of efforts to motivate teachers to put in their best.

“Just recently, we gave a star prize of Peugeot 406 saloon car to Mr Adamu Hamidu who was adjudged the best teacher in the state in 2017.

“Mrs. Ruth Yakubu, who was the runner-up, received a motorcycle,” he said.

He said that 293 schools were renovated across the 17 local government areas in 2017, and commended the state government for providing the counterpart fund that ensured access to the 2014 grants for the execution of projects. (NAN)
