Jos, Jan. 19, 2017(NAN) The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Plateau Command, has arrested three telecommunication vandals in Zaramaganda area of Jos, its spokesperson, Naomi Chisak, announced on Thursday.

Chisak told newsmen in Jos that the command also arrested four illegal miners in the outskirts of the state capital.

The official, who paraded the suspects, explained that the telecommunications mast vandals ruptured the facility and siphoned fuel from the mast transformers.

She explained that the illegal miners were caught at the Laminga treatment dam, which supplies 18,000 cubic meters of water to Jos metropolis.

“We found this act particularly evil because it is an act of sabotage that has affected the state greatly,” she said.

She warned those engaged in such acts to desist from them as the corps had adopted measures to rid society of criminal elements.

Mr. Lambert Gumshuk, General Manager, Plateau State Water Board, who also commented on the activities of illegal miners, described their behaviour as “detrimental to public”.

“The activities of illegal miners is affecting almost all the components of the dam structure and the quality of water.

“They (illegal miners) are also causing gully erosion which leads to the depletion of the water level in the dam,” he said. (NAN)
