Jos, Jan. 25, 2017(NAN) Miss Grace Johnson, winner of 2016 “Miss Tourism’’ beauty pageant in Plateau, has solicited for support in her efforts to curb incessant cases of violence against women and children.

Johnson, who spoke in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Jos, appealed for support from the government, philanthropists and non- governmental organisations.

She said one of the ills hampering the potential of women and their productivity in the state was violence and abuse.

She also expressed concern on the high cases of child rape in the state.

Johnson, who disclosed that her pet project would focus on these vices, said she would soon visit some orphanage homes in the state.

She said the purpose of the visit is to provide succour to them and encourage young girls to be the best they can.

“This position is new for me and I want to make the best of it to fight violence against women and child rape with the support of relevant groups like the government, NGOs and philanthropists.

“I would like to visit schools and some communities to create awareness and sensitisation on the ills facing women and the girl child,” she said.

Jonhson said that she would work with the government and other relevant organisations to restore back Plateau, as the pride of tourism in the nation.

She said this would further boost revenue generation in the state and create employment for the youth.

NAN reports that Johnson, a student of Public Administration at the University of Jos, won the Miss Tourism Beauty Pageant competition last year. NAN)
