PLASU employs 413 staff, sends 64 abroad for Ph.D

Bokkos (Plateau) The Plateau State University (PLASU), Bokkos, on Thursday said it had employed 413 staff and sent another 64 abroad for Ph.D programmes in various fields.
Prof Doknan Sheni, Vice-Chancellor of the university, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Bokkos.
“When I took over as Vice-Chancellor eight years ago, there were only 93 staff both academic and non-academic, most of whom were visiting staff.
“But today, we have 413 staff, both academic and non-academic, with 64 of them sent abroad for their Ph.D programmes.
“They are in the different universities, including those in South Africa, Malaysia, Uganda, UK and USA which entered into Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with us.
“This gave birth to the accreditation of 17 of our academic programmes in 2016 by National University Commission (NUC), boosting our academic activities and performances as a young university, ’’ Sheni stated.
Sheni disclosed that by God’s grace, 15 more programmes would be accredited by NUC in May.
He expressed joy that most of the 64 staff who left the shore of Nigeria had returned, to improve performances in the institution.
The VC, who described PLASU as “up coming’’ university, said it was the 24th State University and 66th national university out of the 160 universities in Nigeria.
He disclosed that on assumption of office, he inherited only the administrative block and a Chapel.
“Today, we have 13 faculties, a library complex, a multi-purpose hall, and entrepreneur complex, among others’’.
He said the development had increased admission capacity of the university from 300 to 1,500 per session, with over 32 courses currently being run.
“As part of our deliberate plans to develop the young institution, we have designed a master plan at the cost of N30 million, to give PLASU a world class outlook. ’’ (NAN)
