Lagos, March 29, 2017 (NAN) An Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Wednesday sentenced a 22-year-old, Chika Eze, to 10 months imprisonment for stealing a Techno phone valued at N6,000 at a bus stop.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Kofo Ariyo, who handed down the verdict, did not give Eze, a driver, an option of fine.
Kofo said the convict would serve his jail term at Ikoyi Prisons.
Eze, at his arraignment on Sept. 9, 2016, had pleaded not guilty to a two-count charge of stealing and threat to life brought against him and was admitted to a N50,000 bail.
The Prosecutor, Cpl. Hafsat Ajibode, said that the accused had on Sept. 9, 2016 at about 6.40 a.m. stolen the phone from Olanrewaju Yusuf’s pocket while boarding an Ikorodu-bound Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) at Costain Roundabout.
Ajibode said the accused brought out a knife to threaten Yusuf and other passengers to free himself after he was caught.
The offences contravened Sections 56 and 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. (NAN)
