Port Harcourt, March 2, 2017 (NAN) Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED) on Thursday bagged an Award of Excellence in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in the four states it covers.

Mr Amos Onwuka, the President, National Coalition of Niger Delta Graduates for Non-violence, a non-governmental organisation, presented the award to the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Jay McCoskey in Port Harcourt.

He said that in spite of the current economic recession which affected revenue portfolio of most companies, PHED still funded health and education programmes while providing jobs to many youths.

“This award became necessary due to the enormous achievements the company recorded by way of donating 3,000 school bags and writing materials to pupils and students spread across the four states it covers.

“Similarly, in the last business year, PHED organised free health checks known as Power Clinic which 694 customers from 10 locations benefitted.

“The group will continue to stand behind the company to enable it to provide electricity supply to residents in the four states it covers.”

Onwuka said the group would partner PHED to carry out sensitisation workshops aimed at tackling increasing spate of cultism and kidnapping in Rivers and the Niger Delta region.

The group also presented an award for Outstanding Performance to Mr Jay McCoskey, PHED’s Chief Executive Officer.

Responding, Mr McCoskey thanked the group and assured them of the company’s commitment to providing reliable and efficient electricity supply to customers.

He urged the group to partner the company and other relevant bodies to ensure the maintenance of peace in the region.

PHED covers Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River and Rivers states.  (NAN)
