Peace
By Olasunkanmi Onifade
Abuja, Sept. 21, 2017 (NAN) The Director General, Interreligious Peace Initiative Nigeria, an NGO, Mr Simon Dolly on Thursday advised leaders across the world to ensure peaceful coexistence in their various communities.
Dolly gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on the sideline of activities marking the International Day of Peace.
The theme for this year is ‘Together for peace: Respect, safety and dignity for all’.
“In handling issues of peace, leaders need to apply wisdom; peace is a sensitive issue and should not be handled anyhow.
“Leaders across the world should support initiatives that promote peace, security and harmony, the use of force is not an alternative.
“Even in the issue of IPOB, the government should dialogue, because there is nothing dialogue cannot do,” he said.
Dolly advised youths to embrace peace and shun violence, saying that without peace there would not be any meaningful development.
He, however, advised Nigerians to complement government efforts by allowing peace to reign in their various communities.
“We need to pray and support our leaders at various levels as well as being law abiding,” he said.
NAN reports that the International Day of Peace comes up every Sept. 2 worldwide.
The UN General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples. (NAN)
