Dutse, Feb. 17, 2017 (NAN) A football competition organised by Jigawa Command of Peace Corps of Nigeria (PCN) aimed at fostering peace and unity among the local populace, kicked-off on Friday in Dutse, with eight local club-sides participating.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that in the opening match, organsers of the tournament, PCN, were piped 1-0 by local club-side Samba United FC of Dutse.
Spokesperson of PCN in the state, Mrs Binta Elleman, told NAN that apart from promoting peace and unity, the competition would also encourage youth development.
She said the competition, to be sustained as an annual event,would last one week and that trophies and other consolation prizes would be at stake.
In his remark on the competition, Chairman of Jigawa Football Association, Mr Sabo Eka, commended the PCN for organising the event.
He said if sustained, it would go a long way in promoting peace, unity and youth development in the state. (NAN)
