Port Harcourt, May 7, 2017 [ NAN] Some parents of primary school pupils in Rivers have lauded the Federal Government for initiating the Home Grown School Feeding programme in primary schools across the country.
The parents gave the commendation in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Port Harcourt on Sunday.
NAN recalls that the federal government, in June last year, launched the school feeding programme to provide launch for pupils in primary 1 to 3 across the country.
Mr Tony Akpolo said that the programme has encouraged more parents to send their children to primary schools.
Akpolo said that the programme helped in energising the school children to study for longer period and encourage them to have more interest in education.
Mrs Esther Igbo also noted that the programme had helped in increasing school enrolment in the states that had implemented them.
Igbo said that the programme would help the academically disadvantaged states to have more pupils in schools.
Mrs Ngozi Obele, said the home grown feeding programme would help in reducing idleness among children of school age in the country.
“We thank the federal government because the programme will reduce destitution and idleness among our children,” he added. [NAN]
