Lagos, March 21, 2017 (NAN) The World Para Powerlifting has called for recommendations on the proposed amendments to its technical, classification rules and regulations.

Jorge Moreno, the body Senior Manager, said in a statement on Tuesday that various National Paralympic Committees (NPCs) and International Organisations of Sport for the Disabled (IOSDs) were given a deadline of April 30 to submit recommendations.

Moreno said that the recommendations would be reviewed in consultation with its Sport Technical Committee, Classification Advisory Group and the International Paralympic Committee’s Legal and Medical and Scientific Departments.

“I will like to invite all our members who widely practise Para Powerlifting to send any recommendation or proposed amendments you may have for the rules and regulations.

“We are very keen to engage with the community to ensure amendment of the technical and classification elements of the sport.

“This will reflect in the significant progress Para Powerlifting has made in the past few years,’’ Moreno said.

He said that the Classification Rules and Regulations would include the adoption of the International Paralympic Committee’s (IPC) Classification Model Rules.

According to him, the rules are designed to ensure World Para Powerlifting is compliant with the 2015 IPC Athlete Classification Code, which must be done by Jan. 1, 2018.

The updated rules would be published in December and come into effect on Jan. 1, 2018. (NAN)
