Panel beater docked over alleged stealing of car worth N3.5m

Mararaba (Nasarawa State), Jan. 15, 2018 (NAN) The Police on Monday arraigned a 33-year-old panel Beater, Danjuma Jatau, in a Mararaba Upper Area Court, Nasarawa State, for allegedly stealing a car worth N3.5million.
Jatau, who resides behind Skye Bank, Mararaba , Nasarawa State, is facing a two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and theft.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Hamen Donald, told the court that one Mr Karim Hussaini of Aso, Mararaba, reported the matter at A Police Division, Mararaba, on Sept. 25, 2017, at about 5: p.m.
Donald said that the complainant alleged that sometime in 2014, the defendant conspired with one Akin and absconded with Chrysler car, worth N3.5million from his car stand at Abacha Road, Mararaba.
“The complainant said that on Sept. 18, 2017, the car was discovered at a panel beating workshop.
“The defendant was asked to produce the person that brought the car for repairs, all efforts to get the person prove abortive.
“Instead, the defendant sold the car and converted the money to his personal use,” Donald said.
The offences contravened Sections 97 and 288 of the Penal Code.
The defendant denied the allegations.
The judge, Ibrahim Shekarau, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500, 000 with one surety in like sum.
He adjourned the case until Jan. 30 for hearing. (NAN)
